Arrival at Base

Base 'T' - Adelaide Island was to be home for the next two years. The various buildings were all constructed from timber and provided living quarters, generator shed, tractor garage, radio shack and meteorological hut.

A matter of days after flying into the base , changing winds loosened the fast sea ice and the Biscoe eventually arrived to carry out a full relief of the base with coal, food, fuel and stores for the following year.

The base was supplied with a limited oil supply, sufficient to run a generator a few hours a day to provide electricity for the radio transmissions, the only means of contact with the outside world.
