Ice Cliff Landing

Towards the end of February 1964 a decision was made to disembark stores and men onto the ice as far south as possible for fear that relief of the Base, which was still sealed off by fast ice, may not have been possible that season.

The ship was eventually moored to an ice cliff some 50 kms north of the Base and stores, dogs and men were unloaded on to the glacier edge.

Stores and essential kit were moved up the heavily crevassed glacier to the Fuchs Ice Piedmont with Skidoos and dog sledges, to await an airlift to the base.
